Tips for Creating a Scannable QR Code
A QR code that looks good but won't scan isn't useful. Keep these in mind:
- ●Use strong contrast. Dark foreground on a light background scans far more reliably than similar or low-contrast colors.
- ●Keep the quiet zone. Don't crop or cover the white margin around the code — scanners rely on it to detect the pattern.
- ●Size it for the distance. A code on a poster or billboard needs to be much larger than one on a business card.
- ●Keep the data short. Long text or URLs create a denser pattern that's harder to scan — shorten links where you can.
- ●Avoid excessive decoration. Heavy logos or custom shapes can break the scan pattern if they cover too much of the code.
- ●Use SVG for large prints. The vector format stays sharp at any size, unlike a PNG stretched beyond its resolution.
